Longer-Term Housing Options for Visiting Researchers

There are two on-campus housing options for longer-term stays:

  • The GEM has furnished apartments with full kitchens, double beds, en suite bathrooms, and air conditioning. They will furnish bed linens, but not kitchenware. It is located across campus from the Tsunami Research Facility, about a 20-minute walk or 10-minute bicycle ride. The GEM is located near restaurants and shops and is about a 10 minute bicycle ride from a grocery store/department store. The building is newly renovated; it has laundry (coin operated), workout facilities, game room, and large screen TV available to residents. The GEM offers long term contracts for stays longer than six weeks. This option is typically available only during summer break (mid June to end of August).

  • University Conference Housing is standard college dormitories with double rooms and shared bathrooms. Residence halls are located about a 10-minute walk from the Tsunami Research Facility and nearby dining halls, a recreation center and other OSU facilities. The residence halls have on-site laundry and supplied linens. There are large screen TVs, game areas, and small kitchens available in the main lounges. The cost for a double room is $84 per week and a single room is $112 per week. Guests may need to purchase meals due to the limited cooking facilities. This option is available only during summer break (mid June to end of August).

Off-campus, the Hilton Garden Inn is the closest hotel, located just a few blocks from the Tsunami Research Facility.

Most of the off-campus options would require transportation. Corvallis Transit System offers bus service to many locales. Another option is cycling - OSU's campus surplus sells abandoned or recovered bicycles once a week with prices starting at $5.
